Observations in the year 1984

November 1984

Date: zz.11.1984 Time: ? Place: Trondstad tavern, Haltdalen
Observer: Kenneth Mauseth
This happened on a Thursday in November. I saw something around that was glowing red and green. It was small, maybe 50x50 cm. It flew just above the high-voltage wires, 500 m south of Trondstad tavern in Haltdalen. I saw right away that it was not a plane. It flew silently. I stood 50 meters from it. It slowly passed over the road. The observation time was between one and two minutes.

Ref. Kenneth Mauseth.

Date: yy.11.1984 Time: ? Place: Aspås, Hessdalen
Observer: Jon Aspås
Phenomenon passed towards the north.

Ref. Jon Aspås.

Date: xx.11.1984 Time: ? Place: Hessdalen
Observer: Anonymous
North end of Rognefjell: A luminous object without sound and with slow movements. Seen with binoculars. After a while it all disappeared. Witnessed by my anonymous wife.

Ref. Anonymous.

Date: 29.11.1984 Time: 08:17 pm Place: Hessdalen
Observer: Per Moen
A yellow / shiny ball of light came from Grønås, went across the valley east of Borren, rose and came down again on the other side of the river, at Røsta.

A Greenland dog on Jenshaugen howled loudly at the same time. The phenomenon that passed towards Øyungen, flashed, - perhaps a little brighter light when it changed course. Possible red streak on the outer edge. The speed was not great. It had a steady course except for the changes. The phenomenon was also partially seen between the trees. Observation time approx. 2 - 3 minutes.

The dog owner looked out as the dog farted and noticed nothing but the dog looking towards the east, towards the phenomenon. The dog became quiet after the phenomenon had disappeared.

Ref. Per Moen.

Date: 17.11.1984 time: 01:30 am Place: Aspås, Hessdalen
Observers: E. Aspås and Jon Aspås
Woke up at 01:30 am at night and saw three strong flashes, i.e. the glare of the flashes. It looked like thunder and lightning, but no sound was heard. There was about 10 minutes between the 1st and 3rd flash. It was cold and starry. This was seen towards the south through the bedroom window, and the flashes lit up the whole room. We never looked directly at the flashes.

Ref. Jon Aspås.

Date: 16.11.1984 Time: ? Place: Hessdalskjølen / lia
Observers: Eldbjørg Aspås and Åsmund Aspås
We were on our way from Haltdalen to Hessdalen. Then we saw an orange light which went behind the treetops. It disappeared over Aspåskjølen.

Ref. Eldbjørg Aspås.

Date: 15.11.1984 time: 10:45 pm Place: Harborg, between Rugeldalen and Glåmos
Observers: Åge, Randi and Rutt Mary Moe
We drove north. Then we see a large light from which a shiny ball came out of, which went diagonally down and flattened out. It disappeared behind the forest. The large light actually consisted of five lights. A red and shiny one in front. Orange behind. Two shiny lights above and below in the middle that flashed one at a time.
The large light turned left and headed south. No sound. Distance approx. 2000 meters. Duration 3 to 6 minutes. The observers stopped the car and watched it. A car passed in the same direction.

Ref. Åge Moe.

Date: 13.11.1984 Time: 07:30 pm Place: Hessdalen
Observers: Ole Gunnar Folde and 2 more
A phenomenon was observed passing to the south and possibly descending at Grønåshøgda. It was flashing white and looked like a large ball. Binoculars were used.

Ref. Bo Ivan Folde.

Date: 10.11.1984 Time: from 02:45 pm to 07:00 pm Place: Hessdalskjølen
Observers: John R. Johansen and Monica Tangstad
  • 03:40 pm - 03:45 pm: Plane heading south meets plane heading north. The plane engines are easily audible, even with the car engine running.
  • 04:30 pm: New plane from north to south. In that plane passing Finnsåhøgda another light appears about 10° below and behind the plane. The color of the light is yellowish-white, strong light. Size like a strong planet. The plane went behind the horizon and the light disappeared 3 - 5 minutes after we first saw it. Observation direction towards Finnsåhøgda, about 15-20° above the horizon. (It was not completely dark yet.)
  • 05:07 pm: A steady yellow light suddenly appears in the north, in the gap between Litlfjellet and Finnsåhøgda. It passes over Finnsåhøgda to the south. No sound, no flashing light. In my opinion a little too bright and fast to be an airplane. It was also silent.
  • 05:47 pm - 05:51 pm: Something appears in the scarp south of Finnsåhøgda. Double constant light, strongest in front, direction north towards Litlfjellet. The color was yellow and the size was 4 to 5 times the size of an ordinary star. Steady light and steady gait. It disappeared on the horizon at Hammerkneppen, in the direction of Haltdalen. Here too I believe that an aircraft of this speed and size must have been very close that it could easily be heard, but nothing was heard.
  • 06:16 pm: Flight in a southerly direction over Hessdalen. Flashing lights in red and white. Jet sound.
Weather during the observations:
There was a breeze or gale from the south-southeast. The temperature was 0°C or slightly below. There was dense cloud cover from the south, which cleared about 10° above the horizon. Sporadic thin cloud patches over the Finnsåhøgda and Hessdalskjølen area.

Date: 21.10.1984 Time: 03:52 am Place: Rognes
Observer: Leif Havik
I got up at 03:40 am because I woke up and got a feeling that something was going on. Looked out through a couple of windows and saw a ball to the south that was about 3 times bigger than Venus. At first I thought it was a star and that the "shine" was due to cloud cover. I watched it for a few seconds and observed that "it" was plunging straight down behind the stars in the south.

I drank water and went to sleep. I had a headache several times during the night, and it didn't go away until the next day. ikke før ut på dagen etter.

Ref. Leif Havik

Date: 16.10.1984 Time: 08:00 pm Place: Hessdalskjølen, Hessdalen
Observers: Bjarne and his son Bjørn Lillevold
A luminous object came from the east and went west. Bjørn and I saw this when we came from Aringlen. The object was cigar-shaped with a pulsating light in front and behind. We got out of the car to listen to see if we could hear any sound, but there was a strong wind so it was difficult to hear. It was completely cloudy.

Ref. Bjarne LLillevold

Date: 12.10.1984 Time: 07:50 pm Place: Vårhus, Hessdalen

September 1984

Date: 29.09.1984 Time: 07:15 pm Place: Hessdalen
Observers: A team from Orkanger
We were on a trip in Hessdalen and observed a large light blue (sky blue) light coming from Røros. The light was not directly bright. There was no sound. The shape was like a lying egg. At Skarvan.

here was a large blue light, as big as two palms on the windshield. It passed quickly from south to north, on the east side of the mountain (Skarvan?).

According to the female witness, the phenomenon passed so quickly that she was unable to form any idea of the distance. This means that both the shape and color may be somewhat vague information.

Ref. Leif Havik.

Date: 27.09.1984 Time: 07:40 pm Place: Community house, Hessdalen
Observers: Jan Moen, Einar Forodden and Jens P. Gjersvoll
A large shiny ball of light, standing just above the ground on Våhuskølen. After a few seconds it turned red and disappeared. Witness was Einar Forodden. Immediately after Jan met Jens P. Gjersvoll who had seen the same thing for a longer time (4-5 minutes). It was not a car, Jens said.

Ref. Jan Moens.

Date: 20.09.1984 Time: 07:00 pm Place: Hessdalen
Observer: R.M.
It was partly cloudy this evening. I am building my own house. I am going to pick up my wife who is coming from Trondheim. By chance I see a bright object in direction Hessjøen. At first I thought it was a star. I took the binoculars (12x40) to take a closer look at the object.

It looks like a "lemon", maybe a little redder around the edge. For about 40 - 45 minutes I sit and look at this light. As I am going to drive to pick up my wife, the light starts to move up the mountainside, then stops again. When we returned, a close relative of mine told me: When you had left, a large disk appeared with lots of light around the edge.

Radar observer: A. Svelmoe
Observation from Gråkallen Radar Station. Bearing 165°, distance 124 data miles. One data mile = 6000 feet = 1829 meters. 124 data miles = 1829*124 meters = 227 km.

The phenomenon repeated itself 3 times. Speed: Mach 12, which is approx. 15000 km/h

Ref. Leif Havik .

May 1984

Date: 31.05.1984 Time: between 12:30 am and 01:00 am Place: Hessdalslia
Observer: Eli Bendos
From the window facing west, Eli saw a light towards Rognefjellet. She had seen "something" there three years ago, and often cast her gaze up towards Rognefjellet, which is located about 2000 meters from the observer's residence. The distance to the phenomenon was between 500 and 1000 meters.

The phenomenon had already appeared when Eli looked out the window, and it was moving from south to north. The phenomenon looked like a cigar standing on end. At the bottom there was a red light while further up there was yellow/white lighting. This yellow-white seemed to be restless, as if it was going up and down.

The movement was also very restless. It went up and down sometimes. It stood still, then moved a little, stood still, etc. The observation lasted for about 4-5 minutes and Eli used binoculars. The speed was uneven.

It was clear, with a light blue sky, and no stars could be seen.

Based on rumors (from others) it was said that it seemed that the phenomenon could have landed at Rogne. The rumors also said that a being was seen, which can be refuted with certainty. But one can assume that the phenomenon had been in the immediate vicinity of ground level.

Ref. Eli Bendos.

April 1984

Date: 23.04.1984 Time: 11:00 pm Place: Rognes
Observer: Monica Tangstad
An object was flying south of my position at Røttum, Rognes. It was flying east-northeast. There were very sharp red flashes, some white flashes. The speed was like a private plane, if it was at the distance it appeared to be. The size of the flashes would indicate that it could not be a scheduled aircraft, which often passes in this "street".

I saw the object through the living room window. The observation time was only a couple of seconds before it disappeared to the left behind %quot;Rødstein". I immediately went outside to hear if there was any sound. No sound was heard. It often happens from passenger planes passing by. It was cloudy. Difficult to estimate height above the horizon, but it disappeared at the height of the middle of the knoll Rødstein.

Ref. Monica Tangstad.

Ref. Jon Aspås.

Date: 03.02.1984 Time: 05:50 pm Place: Aspås, Hessdalen
Observers: Jon, Marit and Eldbjørg Aspås
Marit shouted and Jon came out. Marit saw "something" to the east, but it was at first gone when Jon looked. But they saw "something" coming from the north moving towards Ålen. They used binoculars that were propped against a lamppost. The object disappeared behind a cloud, and Jon called out to Marit when it reappeared.

The object disappeared over Ålen, swung around the &east side of Rognefjellet. It stopped twice, went back. This was the "safest" sighting in a long time.

07:20 pm G6,F7 Light with strange "jumps" in southwest. This jumping stopped suddenly, and it moved towards north. Sometimes there were strange movements, but not with any big amplitude. While it was seen in the north, it first slowly started to oscillate and suddenly made a big movement, like an "S", up in the air and disappeared. This happened at 19.30.
06:03 pm G7,F6 A light showed up over Finnsåhøgda. It moved towards southwest. It was flickering. When it was over Fjellbekkhøgda, we saw that there were two lights. They were about 10 degrees apart. The last one was a little bit weaker. They moved in this way some minutes. Then, the last one moved up 10 degrees, and disappeared a short time after. The flickering was uneven. In between the strong flickering, there were several (weak) flickerings. The bright one continued towards southwest, and became weaker (longer distance). Just before it went out of sight, it stopped flickering, made a big jump, and started to flicker again. It went out of sight at 18.17.
05:50 pm G7,F8 A red light to the north. Recording on radar.
05:45 pm G7,F6 A yellow-white light showed up in the direction of the mountain Rødhovde. Sometimes it flickered with uneven frequency and uneven amplitude. It had an irregular movement. It moved towards the north over Finnsåhøgda and disappeared from sight at 05.48 pm.

Date: 24.01.1984 Time: between 06:00 pm and 07:00 pm Place: Rognes.
Observer: John Roger Johansen
Observation from a car on the way south, just before the center of Rognes. Saw an object with flickering uneven light moving towards the northeast. Assumed speed as a small plane or helicopter. Estimated distance between 1.5 and 2 km. The size was significantly larger than the usual planets / stars. The color was red-yellow, monochromatic. It was silent.

At first it seemed to be an unusually large and red planet, but later I saw that it was moving in relation to the other celestial bodies. Later during the observation it was closer to me, but I could not see details (more lights). I stopped the car immediately and got out, but no sound could be heard. The course was steady and the speed could be like a small plane. The lights were still not right, and judging by the twilight the sound of an airplane should be heard clearly. It reminded me most of the phenomenon in Hessdalen, which I have seen several times.

t was starry, cold (-15°C) and windless. The moon was not up and the surroundings were calm.

Date: 21.01.1984 Time: 05:45 pm Place: Hessdalen
Observers: John Roger Johanse, Monica Tangstad, Bård J.Haugen and Mari-Britt Refseth
We observed from the road, somewhere midway between Hessdalen church and the end of the road. We had a view of Finnsåhø to the northwest and the height between us and Øyungen (Skarvan). At 05:33 pm we saw a passenger plane heading north. At 05:45 pm we saw a UFO also heading north. It appeared approx. 15-20° above the horizon towards Rødhovde (maybe further south). Distance approx. 2 - 4 km. It was silent, and was perceived as a yellow-white light that flashed with uneven strength and uneven rhythm. It had a slightly strange way of moving (unsteady). The object moved at helicopter speed towards and over Finnsåhøgda., and then went out of sight at 05:48 pm.

Temperaturen var ca. -17 til -18°C. Det var helt vindstille, ingen skyer og uvanlig stjerneklart. Det var ingen forstyrrende lyd der vi sto.

Date: 05.01.1984 Time: 10:00 P.M. Place: Eggen farm, Ålen
Observer: Jan Inge Dragmyrshaug
Luminous object that stood calmly over Egge gård in Ålen. It was cloudy. A flashing light that disappeared.

I have also observed things several times that were possibly UFOs, but these observations I have written about here I am 100% sure that they cannot be either stars or airplanes.

Date: 04.01.1984 Time: 10:54 PM Place: Aspås
Observers: Åge and Rutt Mary Moe
The object was seen from the bedroom window on the 2nd floor of their residence. It appeared over Finnsåhøgda and passed from southwest to northeast, directly over their residence. It had no particular shape, but many lights in several colors. At the same time, a plane was flying south.

Ref. Åge Moe.

Date: In the winter of 1984 Time: Between 05:00 am and 06:00 am Place: Ålen
Observer: Kari HJ
I saw a very bright "red, shiny, aluminum-like, round" light that first started to rotate, then it started to go in a "zig-zag" back and forth. This lasted for maybe 10 to 15 minutes, then it was suddenly gone. This happened around 5-6 on a Monday morning southeast of Rognefjell, outside my bedroom window.
